Did you know that the first chiropractic patient was treated for deafness? Who would have thunk! My son asked me to illustrate an article he wrote for his chiropractic blog that summarized a research project that wanted to see if others with hearing loss could receive benefit in a measurable way. Check out the article to read their findings.

His article opens with the question: “When you vomit, are you sick? Or are you well?” Want to know the answer? Click here to find out.
Marching to the Beat of a Different Drum — Baaaa!
Posted in Blog Illustrations, SpinalColumnBlog.com with tags Blog Cartoons, Blog Illustrations, cartoon of chiropractic black sheep, cartoon of chiropractor black sheep, chiropractic, chiropractic cartoon, Contract Cartooning, Custom Cartoons for your Blog, Dr. Thomas Lamar, Tom Lamar on February 15, 2013 by drlamarOne thing is for certain, Chiropractic — when it’s practiced in its pure an unadulterated form — is different. It plants its flag firmly on the hill that your body is self healing and self regulating, as long as we don’t do things to obstruct this process. Medicine just doesn’t seem to groove to this beat. My son asked me to illustrate his blog article entitled Healthcare’s Black Sheep — because chiropractic is different… and that’s a good thing.

Fortunately there’s a team of chiropractors that await arena-side to come to their assistance. This illustration helped give my son’s chiropractic blog article that extra “kick” that it needed.
Eating a Money Sandwich

Mustard, Mayo, Ben, or Jackson? The title of my son’s chiropractic blog article was “Eating for ‘Their’ Profit,” and it was my job to take a stab at illustrating it. The article is a tongue and cheek reversal of sorts on the now growing awareness of what has been tagged The Anti Inflammatory Diet (you know the one that talks about Omega 3′s and 6′s). So just who is the “Their” referring to in his article title? Find out by reading his article.
Crowbar meets Spine

In his article he explains that when you lift and twist at the waist with any sort of weight in your hands, you are essentially — from a mechanical point of view — jamming a crowbar into the base of your spine and having at it!

Well, that was the challenge my son threw my way with his newest blog at SpinalColumnBlog.com.
His article entitled Spare the “Spare Parts” asks readers what the three body parts — Tonsils, Appendix, and Gallbladder — have in common. His answer just might challenge you. Here’s my illustration:

Brain Hibernation
Posted in Blog Illustrations, SpinalColumnBlog.com with tags Blog Cartoons, Blog Illustrations, cartoon brain, Contract Cartooning, Custom Cartoons for your Blog, Dr. Thomas Lamar, sleeping brain cartoon, Tom Lamar on July 1, 2010 by tomlamarHere’s another one for my son’s chiropractic blog. When he asked me to draw up a brain that was sleeping, I didn’t think it would be too difficult…. Boy was I wrong!
“Brain Hibernation” is a theory that a couple of medical doctors came up with (a general practitioner and an opthalmologist) to help explain why chiropactors sometimes witness bizarre improvements in their patients beyond the standard neck and lower back pain.
Navigating the Chiropractic Technique Jungle
Posted in Blog Illustrations, SpinalColumnBlog.com with tags Blog Cartoons, Blog Illustrations, Contract Cartooning, Custom Cartoons for your Blog, Dr. Thomas Lamar, Tom Lamar on April 2, 2010 by tomlamarIf you’ve ever done some asking around to friends and family about what technique their chiropractor uses, you are sure to end up a bit confused. There are so many! My chiropractor son’s article, “Navigating the Chiropractic Technique Jungle,” attempts to put a compass in your hand. I illustrated this safari-themed offering for his article. Speaking of techniques, I used a special “artistic technique” myself on this drawing. It is called a “calligram” and is essentially when you use words to create your image.
Do You Believe in Chiropractic?
Posted in Blog Illustrations, SpinalColumnBlog.com with tags Blog Cartoons, Blog Illustrations, Contract Cartooning, Cupid, Custom Cartoons for your Blog, Dr. Thomas Lamar, Easter Bunny, Jack-o'-lantern, Leprehchaun, Santa Claus, Tom Lamar, Tooth Fairy on March 19, 2010 by tomlamarI illustrated this one recently for my chiropractor son who just posted a blog article on “believing” in chiropractic. While people often say they “believe” in chiropractic, you will never catch them saying that they “believe” in medicine or that they “believe” in dentistry.
“Chiropractic is not a belief system that you have to subscribe to or take stock in for it to work, nor is it akin to the rank and file of the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, or Leprechaun. No, chiropractic works just fine on its own, ruby slippers or not.” — Dr. Thomas Lamar
